Our First Home :o)

So, we got all moved in on Friday! Had a taxi van come and pick us up (and all of our luggage) at the B&B and drive us to our first home as a married couple and our first home in Ireland! We can both say that we are extremely happy to have our own place after a couple of weeks of living out of suitcases and sleeping in hotels. We immediately went to buy groceries so we could actually cook a meal. Actually, I have to admit that I am an extremely lucky woman. The first two nights in our place Marco cooked for me!!!! I did help with chopping, but he cooked a couple of really delicious meals and you can see a picture here to prove it. Anyway, we have two bedrooms and two bathrooms (by the way, 2 bathroom apartments are not that common here.) We have a very large living room and dining area and a tiny kitchen. We are trying to learn all of the little things that come with living in a different country. For instance, heat is a very important thing here (it was 39 degrees this morning....uggh!), but it works completely different than what we are used to. We have electric heaters that are called "storage" heaters. Supposedly you can set them to run at night during off peak hours to save money. They store up heat inside some little blocks that are in the unit and then release it throughout the day. Well, that all sounds nice if you can figure out how to set them without a manual. :) And the water heater.....well, that's a whole different story. Apparently we have to set it to come on at certain times of the day to heat water, but we haven't quite figured out the control unit yet. We must have done something right because we've had hot showers, but we may cry when we see our first electric bill. And, the laundry situation is a bit different. There is one of those combination washer/dryer machines that is supposed to do everything for you. Well, it washes, but would probably need to run for 2 hours to dry anything. Most people hang laundry out here, but we don't have a place to do that right now. Plus, it's raining a lot of the time! Anyway, we have wet clothes on racks all over the living room right now that are taking about 2 days to dry because of the humidity. Oh yeah, we also have 2 portable dehumidifiers here that we have to run every couple of days to prevent mildew. Ahhhh, the things we take for granted in the USA. But we have a comfy bed to sleep in and enough comforts to make it feel like home. And the rest of it we will just get used to with time. Tomorrow we will actually get cable and internet, so we'll be living like kings! Once we get all of our laundry cleaned up and get organized a bit I'll try to take some pics of the place and post them here. We also went for our first run here this afternoon. We have a great little trail that runs through some green areas, along the river and near some old castles. It's really beautiful! If summer ever arrives it will be even more beautiful. :)
